Saltwater Fly Pattern

CRAZY CHARLIE

Original Pattern by Bob Nauheim

Hook:
Saltwater #1 to #8

Thread:
To match wing color

Materials:
Tail - OPTIONAL-See Note 1
Underbody - mylar tinsel - See Note 2
Body - mono or v-rib - See Note 2
Wing – calf tail, bucktail or virtually any other fibre, Krystalflash topping
Head - built up tapered thread
Eyes - bead chain or bar bell

Notes:
A tail is optional on this fly. Generally flash-a-bou or crystal flash is used. Pearl or to match wing color. The tail should be 1/3 to 1/2 the hook shank length.

Pearl mylar is used on the pink, yellow, tan and chartreuse. Silver mylar is used on the white and gold is used on the brown. The over wrap is generally small v-rib but other materials may be used e.g. clear monofilament.

Some nice effects can be achieved by using an over wrap that has been tinted.

Another way some nice effects can be achieved is by wrapping the hook shank with thread (same color as wing), over wrapping this with pearl mylar and then over wrapping this with the body material.
