The flies contained within are not all original patterns. Where possible, every attempt has been has been made to refer to the originator of the design. In most cases, the original recipe patterns have been varied to suit local conditions and to make use of the more commonly available materials to the average tier.
Because of the growing array of materials currently being marketed, it is not feasible to detail all the possible combinations. Many of the materials sold by the various manufacturers have similar characteristics and consequently the combinations of the materials can be varied from the recipe and still achieve the same characteristics for the fly. Where applicable, supplementary notes on alternative colours and tying tips have been added to help in the manufacture of the fly.
