Fly Patterns

SPECIES LIST AND FLY SELECTION for QUEENSLAND WATERS

This selection of fly patterns has been used to catch fish under a given set of conditions in Queensland, Australia. Because of the many variables such as weather, tides, season, the equipment used and ability of the angler, it cannot be guaranteed that they will be successful.

It has been found that the some patterns can be used effectively in other fishing locations for different species throughout the world by varying the size, materials and colours to suit the local conditions.  Many of the patterns have proved successful in other locations while others have not been trialed to any extent. This list is in no way complete and is designed to be used as a guide only.

If the fish are rejecting the fly, try a very slow steady retrieve to simulate movement in the current. A berley mix of chopped up green weed and sand helps.
