Crease Fly Popper A variation of the original Crease Fly pattern by Joe Blados The addition of the hooded head creates a great popping action while still retaining the action of the original Crease Fly pattern. The plastic tube holds the head foam apart and also adds to the robustness of the fly. Lead can also be incorporated at the bend of the hook to cause the tail of the fly to hang down in the water when at rest. This helps prevent the fly being pushed aside when the fish strikes and consequently tends to increase the hookup rate. |

Hook:
Thread:
Materials: Tail - any synthetic material Back - white closed cell foam Head - red closed cell foam Eyes – black/silver prismatic or 3D Sealers - super glue gel and softex |
|
Instructions: 1 Tie in the tail material over the hook point. This fly utilises all flash - silver sparkleflash belly and and green polarflash topping. Tie in the chenille at the hook bend and wrap it up to the hook eye, tie off and trim excess. Cut a piece of plastic tubing - it should extend from behind the hook eye to over the hook point. Bind it in place on top of the hook shank using wraps that are firm without squashing the tubing. Whip finish and cut thread.
2 Cut a piece of white foam so that the length extends from the hook eye to slightly past the hook bend (when glued this will hold the tail materials and help prevent tail wrapping). Adjust the width so that it is seated against the tubing and it extends down to the bottom of the hook shank. Working quickly, spread super glue gel over the tubing and one side of the foam. Carefully, place the foam in position, spread the tail materials upward and squeeze the foam together.
3 For additional strength, secure the foam over tube in two places with about ten wraps of thread
4 Cut a a piece of red foam and glue it in place using super glue or contact adhesive
5 The "hood" should not extend by more than 5 or 6mm. If it is too big, the water pressure during the action of popping the fly will turn the foam back.
6 Attach a set of eyes and cover the whole body with a liberal coat of softex. Take care not to cover the tube end so as to maintain the "air sac" in the fly. |
